City Hires Fire Chief

December 10, 2021 – Sandusky, Ohio – Sandusky City Manager Eric Wobser has announced the appointment of Mario D’Amico as the new Chief of the Sandusky Fire Department.

“Mario is a strong leader and we are excited to have him as Sandusky’s next fire chief”, says Wobser. “He brings with him years of experience as a Sandusky firefighter, as well as a strong commitment to our Sandusky community. We had great candidates to choose from, and it was a very difficult decision. We are very thankful to Jim Green for his many years of service to the city, especially in his role as interim chief.”

D’Amico has over 23 years of experience with the Sandusky Fire Department, most recently serving as a captain/shift commander. He served as the interim fire chief from March-August 2017.

“After working for the Sandusky Fire Department for nearly 24 years, I am humbled to have been chosen to be the next Fire Chief,” says D’Amico. “My family and I are dedicated to this community and I am excited to serve the citizens of Sandusky in this great place that I call home.”

D’Amico was one of three finalists sent to City Manager Wobser by the Fire Chief Selection Committee, which was chaired by City Commission President Dick Brady. D’Amico replaces Rick Wilcox, who retired in August 2020. Sandusky Fire Captain Jim Green has served as interim chief since that time.

D’Amico lives in the city of Sandusky with his wife and five children. He will start as the new Fire Chief on December 23, 2021.
